Gowri's Holi

In North, Holi is celebrated in a grand way.

Gowri also enjoys playing holi. This year she did not have any friends to play holi. So we both played. Enjoy some cool snaps.

First Achievement in Extra Curricular Activity in DPS

I am really lazy to take time out for updating the blog. My sis very often reminds me to do it. Finally updating few topics which is pending. First one on her participation in the competition

Before closing her session in Nursery, Gowri had a competition in her School - " Show & Tell" Competition about any of her favourite like toys, fruits etc... I chose her the subject of her doll which she recently got as gift from Periappa(Raju's Brother). As usual asked my sis, to create a story line in four/five sentences.

Raju's brother was here and he helped in rephrasing the story and taught her for two days continously. She picked it quite well and her delivery was also good. But was not sure how she is going to present in school. She could do well and got a consolation prize - A Certificate in the competition.

Here you go to see her Presentation (Replay taken at home) and below the Certificate.

Gowri, this is the start....

Annual Functions

Gauri has participated in all the Annual Functions since her play school days. Thanks to Chimes for giving her opportunity and moulding her to a confident child !

Before going to her peformance this year, I am starting with updating her prior year performances.

Doctor Subbalakshmy - Gauri's First Stage Performance.(Chimes Play School - Mar 2007)

She does not have any stage fear for the performances. She is used to the performances from the Pre Nursery Days - Thanks to Chimes Play School providing her a solo performance in the first year. She was so confident and her first performance was a "Doctor" . Her dialogue was " Hello Baby, How are you feeling today ! Take Medicines, Ok ! ". She presented these dialogues with great confidence for her age. Unfortunately, I don't have the Pics of this performance :(

Thirsty Crow (Chimes Play School- Mar 2008)

Moving on, her second year peformance was a short play of the "Thirsty Crow". Many of us would have heard about this story. " On a one hot Summer Day, a thirsty crow looking out to drink water. Finds a pot but the water is at a low level. The wise crow picks up some pebbles and put into the pot and the water rises up and thus drinks the water, satisfies the thirst and flew away happily ".. Here the concept is same but with a twist at the end !!! .. Watch this video for the rocking performance !!!

Dancing Princess(DPS- Mar 2009)

Finally, about this year performance. Her first stage performance in DPS. She performed one of the Princess in the Fairy Tale Story which was presented as Musical Ballard.

Dressed & Ready to Rock on !!! (A Pose for the photograph !)

Enjoy this one in the video on her performance

Wait to watch more star peformances from this little star :)

Birthday Celebrations....

It was Gauri's birthday on 24th Jan. Both myself & my hubby does not like the culture of celebrating B'day parties and make it a public function. But... we ensure every year she gets a B'day cake of her choice, gifts and celebrate her cake cutting in the evening with the immediate family members.

Now since she has started understanding things better, she wished to have a party with friends.. This year her b'day was on Saturday... To make it to her wishes, being Saturday we invited her cousins- Shubha didi, Vishal Bhaiyya & Shreya Didi -who stays in Delhi.... Though all of them had classes on Saturday, after the school they made it to attend her b'day party, to make her feel happy.... Since she is the youngest in the family she is so fond of, to her cousins and her periappa's & periamma's pamper her a lot !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Few days back before her b'day, my mother in law got a courier - a Saree, sent to her, from my sis-in-law. Seeing that packet Gauri also expressed her wish of getting a gift by courier.

My sis had gone on a vacation to Bangalore & Chennai in Dec '08 and had done some shopping for Gauri too. To give her a surprise for her b'day, she had couriered her the dresses which she had got for her. She send it such that it will be delivered just a day or on the b'day. Gauri received the courier on her b'day, which in a way fulfilled her wish she just mentioned few days back. She was so happy to receive a courier for her. And I hadn't mentioned about this wish of Gauri to my sis.

Cut to the evening of B'day - Coincidentally my hubby's cousin's family came over from Delhi to meet my in-laws. She got two more cousins for her party .... Shashank bhaiyya & Shreshta Didi.........

When the party started, she was on the top of the world, with so many people around and wishing her b'day wishes and gifts..............

She had her wish of b'day celebrations fulfilled... And she turned 5.

Meditation #%$@

This is an incident which happened in Sept '08. This was in the drafts for a long time and now I have found out time to update and publish.

Gauri had an outing from her school to Rail Museum, Delhi. We dropped her at school in the morning and went @ 1.00 pm to pick her back after the trip.

Met her mam' and took her feedback how she is progressing. Just a month back there was a formal Open House, first one in the new school and got a positive feedback. However, this time there was some comments which we know from her nature at home. But heard the same from her Mam' - No concentration and feels disturbed in the classroom.

We took the feedback positively and gave her a small advice and start practicing meditation everyday for minimum 5 mts. Since hardly will get time in the busy schedule in the morning.

She took it positively and did it initially for 2 days. Third day onward while getting up in the morning, I used to tell her it's already late, get up fast. She will repeat ya, already late will not get time to study, no time for dhyanam!!! which she want to escape. I accept saying, ya no time. Shall finish routine fast and make time for study atleast !! and she says ya ya.

After routine, somehow will manage to make her to do it. But it has helped a lot !!!She infact improved in her concentration and got a very positive feedback from her mam in the next PTA Meeting. Also, this was reflecting in her in the assessment results which was given in Nov '08.

Enjoy one of her Meditation............... :)

Teacher Gauri

"Wish you all a Very Happy & Prosperous New Year"

This is the first post in 2009. My sis keeps on reminding me to update the blog with Gauri's actions, reactions, stories, adventures......... But I don't get time due to my laziness... so called excuse.. " busy at work ". I don't find time that is the truth.

Coming back, just few instances where I have become the student, infact all the family members and teacher is none other than Ms. Gauri.

(This photograph was taken whe she dressed up as Indira Gandhi for fancy dress competition in her School)

This instance happened around 3 months back. In her syllabus she has to learn the Alphabets and vocabulary. There are some words to be identified along with the pictures. Alphabet is G and one of the words was "Goat ". Though I have studied in English Medium, pronunciation was important but not to extent Gauri taught me. I showed the picture and told her to repeat "Got". She immediately corrected me " Amma it is not GOT, you should say "GOAT". I used to be very cautious when I do the revision for her.

This instance happened very recently. On 25th Dec '08 my MIL was feeling some uneasiness and took her for a check up to the nearby hospital. Unfortunately, she was diagoniased for High BP & Sugar and was to be hospitalised. When we were sitting the Nurse came to give injection. I told Gauri, shall I tell the Nurse to give you one "injuction ". She immediately responded " Amma you are saying wrong.. it is not injuction, say "INJECTION " and laughed at me " My hubby, my mom & MIL all started laughing...:)

Gauri picks up things quickly and even she has given classes for Hindi to my mom. My mom has been in North for around 4 years that is around 25 years back. But still she remembers the Hindi she learned that time but ya gramatical errors peeps in too often. But her Hindi is good enough to manage the things required. Teacher Gauri, corrects her grammatical errors, pointing out to her paati you are saying wrong, be say like this...............

Now onwards I am really careful in the pronunciations, otherwise Teacher Gauri will start her classes for me, though it is a good class !!!
